Psalm 84
My Soul Longs for the Courts of the Lord
A Psalm rewritten by Bethany’s young adults
1. The wide and welcoming love within my Abba’s home has an unmatched beauty, and all the saints and angels come in and go out at its gates!
2 I cannot hold within me this feverish desire to walk among your gardens beneath the eaves of your Sanctuary. A bubbling of simple and pure joy bursts forth in praise from my mouth, and your light shines forth through my very chest,
for you, my Lord and my God, are alive!
3 Even small birds have heaven-like safe places for comfort, protection and nurture. They sing praises to you. You provide these safe places, O Lord, our King, our Risen Lord.
4 How happy and blessed we will be to join you in heaven. We will sing praises to you forever.
5 Blessed are those who depend on the Lord to sustain them, who are set on seeking him no matter how far.
6 As they journey through times of sadness and tears they will find new life and growth. The late rains will wash them clean.
7 The righteous go from mountaintop to mountaintop until they reach you, at the highest mountain.
8 Hear me, my Deliverer; listen to me, O God who fulfills promises.
9 Look, God, at how we hunger for you, we are your sons and daughters whom you have chosen.
10 It is way better to be with you, Jesus, in your glorious presence, even for a moment, than elsewhere for years and years. I would rather do the grunt work, the lowliest jobs, if it means I am with you God, near to you and singing praises to you, rather than in places where evil is king.
11 Lord, you give light to the darkness and protection from danger; recognition and promotion come from you. You don’t hold back what is good from those walking in your ways and desiring you.
12 As I sit in your presence, I become more and more aware that what you truly want from me is to trust in you and walk with confidence knowing you have made me holy.
