Why does MBPPC serve at Operation Nightwatch?
- They are in our neighborhood. MBPPC is the only Presbyterian Church with the same zip code (98144) except for the Japanese Presbyterian Church
- Their need (food for 150 adults) once a month, matches our supply of volunteers and funds.
- It builds community. New members can connect with other members of MBPPC through group service.
- Many can get involved. For people exploring community service, it is short-term commitment. MBPPC children and older adults can also serve at Operation Nightwatch. Parents can bring their children, the youth group can be involved in community service. The seniors of our church can also get involved. Members can bring their non-member friends and neighbors to serve alongside Christians, as a witness to God's love.
- Other opportunities exist. Besides feeding the hungry, we can supply clean socks, blankets and personal hygiene kits. We can also come alongside the guests during dinner and listen to their stories.
- More opportunities for serving food in the future. If we have more volunteers than kitchen space, we could add another evening during the month, for meal prep and service. Future opportunities also include taking the disabled residents to the store, walks, etc.
